Mr Adam Iddrisu Alidu

Regional Coordinator – Western Africa

 

I hold a Master of Philosophy Degree in Crop Science, a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy and a Diploma in Post-harvest Technology from the University of Ghana and the University for Development Studies respectively. Prior to these, I worked with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), starting as a Technical Officer grade II (Agricultural Extension Agent) through to the grade of Assistant Director.

As a Development Officer with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in the Northern region of Ghana, I worked with a lot of NGOs and Individuals in research and Extension services such as Group animation, Micro credit facilitation, Agro forestry, out grower programmes, Training and Education of farmers and traders. I served on projects such as the Smallholder Rehabilitation and Development Program (SRDP/IFAD), the Northern Rural Growth (NRGP), the IITA/YIIFSWA, Roots and Tuber Improvement and Marketing Programme (RTIMP) in various capacities.

I collaborated with research institutions such as the Council for Scientific an Industrial Research (CSIR/SARI), Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA), Centre for Agricultural Biosciences International (CABI), University of Ghana and other organizations involved in the Food Security, Safety and Regulatory system. I am currently an Assistant Director and the Head of the Plant Pathology Unit of the Plant Protection and Regulatory Services Directorate (PPRSD) of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Ghana and a leading member of the Ghana Sweet Orange Consortium of the Platform for African-European Partnership in Agricultural Research and Development (PAEPARD II) a Project of FARA

I am familiar with the Agricultural innovation systems approach and the Integrated Agricultural Research for Development (IAR4D) concepts of FARA used in the Sub-Saharan African Challenge Program (SSA CP) for tackling Agricultural related problems.

I am well versed in Post-harvest technology, Extension services delivery, Farmer Group animation (out growers, FBOs, CBOs, Farmer 2 Farmer), Plant Protection and Quarantine, Value Chain Promotion, Research, Sustainable Agriculture, Agronomy and Plant Laboratory Techniques
