Ms Tamara Naidoo

Tamara Naidoo is currently completing her Masters in Multidisciplinary Human Rights at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. Ms Naidoo’s study interest is the nexus between climate change, conflict and the gendered economy. In 2013 she completed her Honours in Political Sciences while serving as the Chairperson of the United Nations Association of South Africa (Pretoria Chapter). Whilst holding this position, her team of student leaders raised awareness on global issues, ran community projects on environmental education for children among other programmes and co-hosted the first and second Model United Nations South African University Conference in collaboration with the South African Department of International Relation and Cooperation, the United Nations Information Centre and the South African Institute for International Affairs.
Most recently Tamara’s work experience has included a political internship with Fleishman Hillard during the 2014 South African elections and she was elected to the position of Deputy-Secretary General for the United Nations Association of South Africa through which she attends a three-year human rights training programme at the World Federation of United Nations Associations in Geneva, towards the improved use of the Universal Periodic Review. Even though Tamara is currently abroad gaining experience in the field of environmental democracy at the World Resources Institute, Washington D.C, Tamara is the Research and Development Officer at the Southern African Liaison Office (SALO), an NGO facilitating high-level policy workshops on a range of peace and human security issues.
