joined VBS Mutual Bank in July 2017 as the General Manager: Credit and is leading the process re-engineering project within the VBS Credit department for a simplified, streamlined and automated process. This included identifying high impact customer focused processes that could be re-engineered to make it easier for internal stakeholders to fulfil the needs of the customers whilst driving efficiency and cost reduction. In the three months that he has been with the Bank, all Credit related processes have been reviewed, mapped and documented, whilst the review of the Credit Policy and Procedures is under way.
David was previously the Head of Risk/ CRO in Toyota Financial Services (TFS) responsible for the enterprise risk management (ERM), Wholesale Credit and the Residual Value (RV) Management portfolios. He was responsible for the entire risk management portfolio as well as delivery of large scale complex programmes ranging from strategy definition to operating model design and implementation of organisation-wide transformation. While at TFS, David designed, conceptualized and implemented a Residual Value Management process aimed at setting competitive guaranteed future values (GFV) for all Toyota models, including Lexus models. Today it is a flagship programme at the heart of TFS customer attraction and retention strategy.

Prior to joining TFS, David was a Head of Credit and Operational Risk Management at SA Taxi Finance where he was responsible for ensuring adherence to regulations from a credit lending perspective as well as ensure that all risks that the business was faced with were identified, remediated, monitored and reported across the business. Through his 6 and a half stay at SA Taxi, David held various senior positions in the field of credit and risk, focusing mainly of process optimisation, process re-engineering, policy writing and system development.

Prior to joining SA Taxi, he held the position of Credit Manager: South and Central Africa in IBM Global Finance (IGF), responsible for the entire credit lending process for Africa.

David has a B Com degree in Accounting, an MDP and an Executive Development Programme certificates and is currently studying towards a Post Graduate qualification in Corporate Governance. In 2006, David was awarded the “IBM’s Support Person of the Year” award, a first for a non-sales personnel within the organisation.

David has strong leadership and motivational capabilities and good inter-personal and communication skills. He is also strategic thinker with strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
